Re: What to look for when buying a MK3
OK from front to back of the car. The front suspension bushes can weld themselves to the suspension bush inner metal tubes. In most cases it is a saw off job of the front arms. A heavey job that you need heavey duty saw blades for. The front scuttle blanking caps need removed and resealed to stop wa...

Re: The little red roadster build, Renovation/revamp, 09
It is against the human rights act to have to do this outside. Does it not blow away the shielding gas? I bought two of those power finger sanders. One half inch and one about a quarter inch finger width. I messed about for two weeks, battery or compressed air. Changed my mind every day or two and i...

Re: ABS warning light
The MX5Tech unit will not advise on MK2 faults. It will on the MK1 up to about 1995 but it does not recognise the ABS fault codes on the Mk2 1998 to late Autumn 2000.

Re: mk1 6speed
The drive shafts changed around 1993 so you should be OK there. You will end up with the car revving higher at 70 on the motorway but better on the track. I would keep the 5 speed as I do not track the car and like it to be quieter on the open road.

Re: Faulty Lambda reading
You only see the data if it comes from the ECU to the data port on the nearside wing. I had a 1996 UK spec car at full temperature and got no reading on the MX5Tech tool re the O2 sensor. The car had recently passed an MOT with no issues at all regarding emissions. If the O2 sensor was faulty as you...

Re: Faulty Lambda reading
I can confirm that the BPU2A ECU is the first version of the 16bit ecu fitted to the Mark 1 manual cars from mid 1995 through 1996.

Re: Faulty Lambda reading
I have today used my latest spec, MX5Tech reader on a Mid 1996 registered MK1. It did the straight line readout of the O2 sensor voltage both setting the car as a MK1 and as a MK2. Therefore, I assume the 16 bit ECU as advised in the MK2 section of the reader user manual also applies to late Mk1's. ...

Re: Faulty Lambda reading
Glennygills, The Gleneagles started production in October 1996. The factory went over to the 16 bit ecu around August 2015 in the States and I believe in the UK. In the states a timing disc similar to the MK2 was placed behind the crankshaft pulley to allow the ecu to get an accurate warning of misf...

Re: Ride Height Standard MK1.
I have checked out the 1990 spec for springs and believe you have the standard from springs on the front which are shorter and 1.7 times harder the the rears. I think for some reason you also have standard spec front springs on the rear which would mean the rear end is 40 mm too low and as those spr...

Re: Mk 1 Fuelling
Not making too much sense here. The MK1 had the cam angle sensor on the back of the cam, that inlet cam had two raised areas, one to open the the fuel injector and to signal a spark to the the plugs, the other to change what pair of cylinders got a spark and to choose which fuel injector is opened n...

Re: Mk 1 Fuelling
If I remember and I may be wrong, the mid 1993 1.6 cars used one type of fuel injection, the post 1994 ish European 1.6 cars used a different type of fuel injection system. The Mk2 1.6 cars went back to a similar spec to the mid 1993 cars. Therefore the 1997 car you have is controlled by an ecu that...
