Tools: Sturdy paper clip, 12mm spanner, Strobe Timing light

Warm the engine until Revs drop to normal operating idle speed. Place paper clip between GND and TEN in the diagnostic port (situated on the left wing under the bonnet).

There's oil around the place, and the finger of doom is pointing at the CAS o-ring.

Time to replace it. Not that tricky a job, I managed it and it was the first thing I have done on the engine!

You will need sockets, 10, 12 and 14; torque wrench, pliers.

A very common mx5 problem is the development of a nasty ticking sound from the top end of the engine. Usually the first signs of this are when started from cold, but similarly the problem can be non-existent when cold, but appear after the engine has been given a good workout....
