I'm not happy.. paint lacquer is peeling off :-(

This is the section to see what is hidding behind those panels, and how to get rid of the tin worm, cutting out and welding in fresh metal, protection and paint.

So my nice shiny car has the lacquer coming off in two zones - on the front passenger wing, and also near the fuel cap, along the top flat panel near the boot...

It looks awful.

Am I looking at expensive paint work here?

It is an inherent problem with these cars. My old MK1 had the problem and so have both of my MK2's.

I've just noticed a spot on top of one front wing on mine starting to go - is there anything that can be done to delay / stop the spread of this, or is that it once it starts? :?:

I don't think there's any lacquer left on my bonnet. It's all peeled off! The paint is older than me though! As is the car.

Most peeling will of happened because they have had fresh paint at some point, either here or Japan on the imports, but the red seems to do it a lot regardless.

Does anyone know the answer to the question?

Is it difficult/pricey to fix?

To be totally honest the answer is no. Moisture has got under the clear coat & once that happens that's it. Some people have tried various things to try to improve the look once this has happened but it will not last for that long.
