The lion is a direct replacement. It fits right into the plastic try underneath, and the height is fine for the top mount.
I've simply left off the breather connections.

Re: New battery time...
After messing with a couple of these bl**dy westco rubbish, i just went out and bought a new panasonic one as i know i will get a good 10 years plus from one and will not be let down, the reason for this is i really do not like wet cell batteries in these roadsters, for the damage they can do that i have personally seen and had to put right over the years for other owners.
The bosch one Lazza got seems to be ok? although it as run flat, which to be fair any of them will in a short space of time as none of them are the biggest of Batt's, it is down to budget at the end of the day also.
If you have a garage for her to be parked up in and is not a daily runner then hook her up to a smart charger/trickle charger to keep the batt topped up until you are ready for a bit of fun again.

Re: New battery time...
If you can afford it, get the Panasonic. It is without doubt the best.
The Lion battery seems best so far if you can't afford the Panasonic (it's half the price if you time it right) and you need a battery now - but it will never be as good as the OEM.

No it hasn't Wayne. The old Westco was rubbish but the Bosch has never run flat on my car.

Re: New battery time...
Hi all, I just stumbled across this post while looking for battery info and thought I'd register and add my tupence worth. I bought a mk2 back in August and the previous owner had fitted one of these Lion batteries. It has run flat once since I've been the owner, but only after being left standing for more than a month. It recharged nicely and has been fine since. I don't use the car much over winter, so expect the battery to lose charge.
Today I picked the car up from it's winter lay up because the weather looks quite good for the weekend. Car started 1st time, and hasn't been started for the previous 3 weeks. The battery is on charge now via a cetek charger to make sure it stays ok over the next month or so as it won't get much of a run. It's nice to finally know what that round window in the top is for. Mine seems to be missing the sticker with the info. Fingers crossed the battery lasts, as only time will tell. But so far I'm happy with it, and the 3 year warranty that came with it is reassuring.
On a side note. Nice site Wayne. Full of good stuff.
