Jass performance Mk 1 LED boot light

Postby Mazda Mender » Tue Mar 10, 2015 10:48 pm

Good old Vlads boot light mod from Jass performance. I have done a guide for the Mk 2/2.5 so thought it was time to do one for the MK 1's also, so here goes.....

This is a simple mod that will make a lot of difference.

Tools needed...

1/4 drive ratchet
1/4 drive 10mm socket
1/4 drive extension
Wire snips
Heat shrink
Soldering iron/solder
Wire ties
Length of single strand wire.

As the packet arrives....

Lets get it all out.....

So lets start...pop the boot and crack and remove the two 10mm head bolts that hold the boot locking loop to the boot lid, please note the direction of the F and arrow on the plate for reattachment. Put everything to one side as we will be needing it all again later...

Offer both back up to the boot lid with the F and arrow directed to the boot/front and reattach with only one of the 10mm head bolts and only finger tight For now. Now the positioning of the switch is your choice, we use the left bolt hole simply because of the wire run following the brake light wire with this version being a Eunos Japanese import, this will be different in some versions as some were not built with them across Europe.

Now get the switch from the kit, screw the narl nut to the top to give us full adjustment so we can lock it up to our final position when finished...

Now, because of the way I am running, I found the wire was not long enough, and I hate seeing add-ons on these with washing line wires/cables running everywhere, so the choice is down to the owner on your route. I like it out of the way and neat, so I cut the fuse connector off to be reattached later...

Now it is time to test that the switch works and to fine tune it if needed. The easiest way to do this is with your phone on record, close the boot, pop it open again and check the Vid to see if it goes off or stays on when the boot is closed. Adjust as needed and re-test until it works correctly with any luck like this one, first go...

Nip up the knurled nut on the switch and we are all done...

As always, any questions please just ask.

Cheers Wayne, amazing how-to as usual!

I am sorry to have put you through the trouble of needing additional soldering (straight forward installation is the goal). The boot light kits are prepared with longer wire for a while now and I am afraid you have received for some reason an older version. Sorry again for the hassle with it!
