3" angle grinder

Postby drumtochty » Wed Feb 16, 2022 2:57 pm

I have a 4.5" battery and mains angle grinder but for doing the Mk2 sills they are a bit clumsey.

Ebay have a £30, 3" angle grinder mains powered non branded but looks not disimilar to my mains 4 1/2 angle grinder.

I have Ryobi batteries and they do a 3" cut off saw for around £100 bare tool, I have two 5 Amp Hour batteries.

There are loads of air operated 3" cut off saws on the market but all seem to come from the same factoray in China and are between £15 and £40

Someone said use a multi tool. I have a mains one and will give that a go today.

What do others use.

When, and I say when I need something that small, I have an old Draper air powered 3" grinder but the hose connection gets in the way.u

Be interested to hear what others have and use.

Yes a friend advised against the air driven cut off saws because of the hassle of the air hose that is a bigger problem as the tools themselves get smaller.

We use a cordless grinder with thin cut discs or flappy discs and multi tool with cutting discs ,grinding discs and grinding bits etc for the deeper fine work/finishing with a extension attachment also, mini air sander grinder with a selection of cutting ,grinding and sanding, very good selection of files, abrasive papers...all used to achieve a good finish, there is not one tool for it all.

Thanks Wayne.

I think a 3" cordless angle grinder and a multi tool will come in handy but as you say no one tool will do it all.

Spending time today on the MK2 cutting the rear rusty inner sill from the inner upright behind it Also making sure the inner box section with the rear jacking point is not damaged in the process.

Very much a learning process so doing it one step at a time.

Big problem with the welder today as the Mig wire was coming out with no sparks.

Connecting the earth wire to the car sorted that!

Re 3” cordless angle grinders I have the Sealey version (see below). Couple this with a 4amp hour battery and it’s spot on. Really like the sealey CP range. My go to drill, grinder polisher and ratchet.

Yes,

My thoughts at the moment is to get the Ryobi version of the Seeley CP 1210 angle grinder as I have two off 5 Amp Hour Ryobi batteries and the Ryobi bare unit is a similar price to the bare Seeley unit.

I also have a mains multi tool that I have not tried yet but that is tommorrows task.

Thanks for your reply as it confirmed my thoughts.

I find the extension very useful for getting into those tight spots to shape panels and welds with the grinding bits for the finishing "OCD" bit...
