How to make a ABS tester

Postby Mazda Mender » Sun Jul 03, 2016 9:15 am

This is a 100% testing tool to find a dead ABS sensor, the warning light can be misleading as can the fault codes...

First you will need a new or s/hand working ABS sensor, it really does not matter if it is the front or back as long as it works and is complete with the loom and plug, if it is a front one you will need a sensor side rear plug from a scrapper, if it is a rear you will need the sensor side front plug also..
The one we will be using for this guide is a rear ABS sensor with the loom and plug and is a s/hand OE sensor that is fully working which we also have a front sensor plug and a bit of loom....

Next mark up where we are going to be joining the extra plug to the sensor loom and strip the outer core back.....

Strip some cable back on each wire to reveal the copper core to join the extra plug to, in this case we are soldering in because it is a more solid join, you can use crimp connections for this but soldering makes more sense, once soldered, cover the soldered joins with electrical tape...

Very simple testing tool to make, just un plug the sensors on the Mx-5/Roadster one by one plugging in the tester until the dial clusters warning light goes out and you have found the faulty sensor that needs replacing.

Any questions , please feel free to ask.

:handgestures-thumbup: Ace write up and a cracking idea. Obviously easier to use a rear sensor as the fronts are usually destroyed removing them and leaving the hub housing on your nice tester may be a bit cumbersome :-D

DO NOT try to remove the holding bracket from the sensor, it will kill the sensor.
