Thoughts on sill and arch repair

This is the section to see what is hidding behind those panels, and how to get rid of the tin worm, cutting out and welding in fresh metal, protection and paint.

Thoughts on sill and arch repair

Postby shapps » Mon Jun 02, 2014 10:03 pm

Hi guys

So I've been to a couple of places to get quotes for sill repair and arch work.
On a merlot I've been quoted between £1400 and 1600. The latter quote is from a reputable 5specialist based in Herts. and includes two new front wings, sills and arches all blended in.

Is tha reasonable do you think from a pricing perspective ?

Thanks

I had my rear sills done at Autolink. Just over £400 all in if I remember correctly and a nice job. Maybe give Andrew a call, very helpful guy. Cheers, Mick.

Thanks Mick. I may hold off until the autumn now really. Autolink, MX5Restorer and DRMX5 would be perfect, but they are all a mission to get to from North London. Plus I'd need to get the train back and that's half a day gone for me.... :-(

Half a day for a £1200 saving sounds like it might be worth the effort.....

Bodywork IS expensive as its time consuming and materials add up. For sills repairing I've heard from 80-200 a side.

To break down that 1600 quote does that include new wings, sills and arch panels? as theres a good £600 in two wings pair of sills and rear archs even in pattern panels, plus welding. And a paint down both sides which is normally circa £250 a side for a good job? Doesn't seem so bad.

Yeah I went to Autolink just before Xmas from S London and getting back was a nightmare due to time of year, aint to bad normal times though plus Andrew drops you at Station if he has time. Good luck whatever you choose.

new front wings sills and arch panels and yes a lick of paint all round with appropriate blending. I'll hold off until the autumn then and just enjoy the car for the moment. Maybe I'll get the interior sorted out which I've been quoted £550 for new foam and upholstery as well as new door cards...
