Hi,
This problem has been growing for a while now. The paint is blistering on the front bumper. I thought it was fibreglass but I realise it is plastic. I don't have any idea why it is occurring.
Does anyone know what the problem is. I guess I am now looking for a replacement front bumper.
John

Re: Bubbling front bumper
Not seen it on an MX yet but on a Peugeot.
We rubbed it down and repainted it, no idea why it blistered tho.
Was suggested it was down to a poor plastic mix and paint reaction. Sure some spray dude will along to give you a more definitive answer.

Re: Bubbling front bumper
It is defo moisture....either a skim of filler or it is trapped moisture from being sprayed...as she lived under a cover?

Re: Bubbling front bumper
Agree that it likely due to moisture. Has the nose been repaired recently?

Re: Bubbling front bumper
The whole car was resprayed about 4-5 years ago. This started showing about two years ago. The car is garaged generally, not under covers.
The problem is that if I put it in to get repaired, they will only know what's wrong after they rub it down.
I guess the question is,Is this just a Paint problem or a problem with the bumper? What can go wrong with the bumper?

Re: Bubbling front bumper
GG, it’s very hard to tell from the photos, typical (in my little experience) paint can micro blister any time after painting. This is normally due to moisture in the primer/paint. Having said that the bubbles look to big for that. If it was mine I would strip the bumper right back to the plastic. Repaint with a etch primer, prime (with plasticiser added) and then top coat.
Sorry you properly didn’t want to hear that but, a spot repair IMO would be a false economy in the long run and I would always be worried about future break through.
Happy to met up and take a look if that helps.
Nose cones are pretty cheap so you could get a spare and prep it yourself and ask your painter to then paint it off the car and then fit. That would be fun and very satisfying.

Re: Bubbling front bumper
I agree
Just live with it for the minute until funds allow...there is a line starting of blisters ..so something's not right under neath but it is defo moister....
I would do as john says ...get a s/hand nose cone and have it done, then just swap them over, sorry buddy no easy cure for those blisters, i can also see where the paint as sunk and what looks like over spray on the badge from masking up rather than removing the badge? or is it reflection?
