MrChrome's Gurston Down - 25th and 26th August

Postby MrChrome » Fri Aug 24, 2012 1:53 pm

I'll be running in the weekends hill climb at Gurtson Down this weekend. http://www.gurstondown.org

It's a British Championship Event - cars will be running at upto 150+ miles an hour and doing the hill in around 27 to 30 seconds

25th is practice day - first session starts around 08:30, another in the morning, then lunch then third practice finishing around 15:00

26th is race day - 08:30 one practice run then first timed run from around 10:30 second timed run from 14:00 ish (ÂŁ10 per adult)

I'm number 16 and in Batch Two but it looks like I'll either be third or forth car on the hill. (Batch one is two cars and I'm second in batch two but I believe the no 15 driver may not be taking part) my runs will be in the first fifteen minutes of each session...

You can see the live timings on:

http://www.tsl-timing.com/?loc=club&sea ... tid=123484

It'll be live as the event runs.... so you'll probably know my time before I do...

Current Personal Best for Gurston Down is: 42.35 secs

Mmmm well that was an interesting weekend.

Saturday the weather was about the worst I've seen at Gurston Down. I did all of my three practice runs that day - learnt a few things and did my best wet time.... Just so you get an idea of how bad it was, in the afternoon, some cars didn't even practice! One batch only one of 30 had a practice run! Gurston's competition secretary (Paul Webster - drives an MX5) said he'd never seen the paddock looking like a river before!

Sunday was better - fourth car on the hill (08:43) and it was damp - so not a great time....

I messed about with the air intake before the first timed run which was about the worse thing I could have done! The tubing blocked the air intake and I managed a 53.xx - left me last in class.

Second timed run was different 43.01 - got back into third (behind the usual suspects Jules in a Clio Cup and Miles in a 306 16V) but great day for me!

Video will be up as soon as I've sorted it - should be before the weekend...
