Pete has yet another flat battery problem Mk1>Mk 2.5

Postby Mazda Mender » Mon Oct 15, 2012 8:09 pm

Pete got in his pride and joy this morning, turned the key and nothing. With the help of his wife they jump started the and off he went to work, a 20 mile drive from home. At 5.30 this evening on leaving work, the car is dead again, he is at a loss as to whats wrong as he thought that the 20 mile drive would have put some charge into the battery.
Can you help him

When Pete got back to his car, did the car turn over or did he just get that annoying click when there's absolutely nothing? Looks like it's the latter so sounds like the battery is not charging at all - has Pete checked his alternator?

He has a gizmo in the roadster that shows him what charge is going from the alternator into the Battery and it is throwing out 14.5 volts, so the alternator is OK .

So guessing that since the voltage is ok when the engine is running that the connections must all be ok too - I presume he's checked them?

Assuming it has an OEM type Gel battery does it need to have a proper slow charge from a hi-tec charger such as a C-tek or optimate to bring it back up?

Thanks Colin.

Peter bought himself a accumate smart trickle charger, left her on trickle charge to recondition the gel battery, and he has a smile on his face again.
