Engine is cutting out.....

Good old Chri has another issue , this time it is the engine randomly cutting out on his 1.6 1992 import, whether it is idling on his drive or while driving, it is intermittent and he says he can see the revs dropping to stall and if he is quick enough, he can press the clutch peddle in and rev her to get her back without it cutting out, his fear is that it cuts out and something hits him or he hits something ,so as no faith in her at the minute.
So what say all you knowledgeable spanner throwers and problem solvers, can we help him find the intermittent fault and cure it ?

Assuming we can rule out the coil packs breaking down, I would firstly plug my MX5Tech resder in but I would already be leaning towards a fueling issue. Sound just like an old bike I had some years ago.

Swapped coil pack, HT leads and plugs, and as made no difference, no fault codes showing , according to the ECU " nothing to see , everything is fine" She is getting fuel and at the correct pressure, no sludge in the tank blocking the sock and falling back off.

No one else playing this time.
So no faults recorded on the ECU but that doesnt always mean that there isnt a fault.
Electrical side all good.
Fuel side all good.
Possible throttle positioning sensor intermittent fault or is our dog barking up the wrong tree again.

Throttle body changed with the ICV and TPS....which as made no difference.

Well I'm not the top dog spanner on here but no one else seems to want to play so further embarrasment due.

If it only occurred while idling I would say base idle setting but that wouldn't explain the while driving drop off. We've ruled out a fueling issue and any obvious electrical faults so it has to be something not easily tested.

So fuel and electric and mechanical covered only leaves air as a problem. Am I heading in the right direction or do I need a new satnav.

Air flow meter changed, still no difference, it does seem electrical?

Do a base idle speed check. I had a problem with the engine cutting out and when I reset the idle speed all was good.

Base idle is spot on with a new throttle body etc.

So we have fuel. We have no known ECU faults.
Is the ECU area damp?
Have you checked all the earthing points for a good contact.

How good is the battery - is it charged/charging/holding its charge?

Is there plenty of copper grease everywhere

Battery is brand new,alternator is good, all earth points are spot on and we have tried 3 different ECU's with the same out come.
