No reason why not, as long as you look at the car before parting with the money.

Only really safe if you can look at the car BEFORE bidding (or get somebody you trust to do so for you) otherwise you can only refuse the transaction if it does not meet the sellers description. most sellers are canny enough to not mention anything too detailed!

I have bought 2 MX5's on ebay from private sellers, hitting Buy Now before seeing the cars and no problems, not everyone is dodgy. Read the ads carefully, any spelling mistakes, unnecessary abbreviations, poor quality images etc. mean they cannot be putting a lot of effort into selling the car.

Same here. I bought both my MK1s on Ebay. I just asked loads of questions & for more photo`s before travelling.

If you can`t view before bidding you still have the option to walk away without handing over any cash if it`s not as described.

I didn't mean to imply that everybody selling on EBay was dodgy - plenty of perfectly good sellers.

it is just that you need to be aware that hitting that button is a contract to buy and that your only recourse if it turns out to be not what you expected is if it is 'not as described' so you need to take care.
