engine bay clean up

Postby Yolo » Mon Oct 06, 2014 7:22 pm

hi folks, I am swapping some hoses so have the air box out which gives me some space to give the bay a bit of a wipe round. That got me thinking what else can I clean so the expansion tank came out and I am struggling to get it clean so any tips are welcome. now I am thinking about the charcoal canister can it be removed if so how and why is it there if not needed.
I hate the idea of spraying wanted on the engine so am gonna clean what I can by hand unless there are any other tips.

Bent brush and hot soapy water for the expansion tank, TFR on the engine bay ,neat if heavily soiled and watered down as per amount of dirt, once the bay is cleaned you can just stay on top of it with a good car wash and wax.
It is all down to how you use it and the correct way to removed it and the products you use to protect it.
I am more than happy to talk you all the way through doing this on the condition that you do a how to for others to use  :handgestures-thumbup: :coffee:

Hi Wayne sounds good. I have been thinking about doing this for a while and just working round the car as everything needs a good rub down. The paintwork isn't great in some places but a clean engine bay would be a nice surprise for everyone that cares to look. Think I might work round the car over the winter so will be looking all sorts of advice.

let me know what I need to gather up then I can give you a shout when I am going to do it and I will take pics as I work through it.

Is there a how to on here or just the one on the OC site? Is it just the coil pack that needs clingfilm or anything else? My engine bay needs doing sooner rather than later?

M-M, what TFR would you recommend?

I have spent far too much money on valeting products over the years, but must admit, a TFR is not something I have ever bought!

I want to get the engine bay of my wee Eunos looking lovely for next year as I am spending a fair bit of money on the outside so it's only fair I keep them equally spoiled :D

honestly, if the bay is that bad you can get away with some rags and some elbow grease. when I got mine it was in a right state

before

after (hadn't done the firewall at that time)

granted, this wont win you any concours points but it'll stop a buildup of muck (and moisture) under the bonnet and it looks a damn sight cleaner.
I used WD40 as well to wipe off any excess crud and then made sure I wiped off any excess spray. Easy job that anyone can tackle (watch for sharp bits), and takes 20 minutes to get a decent result.
