Hi,
I recently noticed some coolant loss from my MK1. A small patch on a bit of cardboard I placed under the car overnight. When driving, temp is normal and fans..I have a double set...do not come on more than normal. I have an allu rad installed in June 2018. Over the last couple of days I have noticed a small amount of steam coming off the engine..especially when idling on my driveway. Temp remains normal. Cannot see any hoses leaking. Will run more checks, but would appreciate any thoughts...thanks.

1.6 or 1.8 ???....i would find where it is spraying from ASAP..before it gets worse and kills the engine...

Get down to your local friendly garage (not a main dealer) and ask them to pressure test your cooling system, it's a very simple job with a hand held pump and a piece of cardboard which should take only a few minuets to do.
I have one on my van but it will only fit a large twist/lock rad, (i must update it).

Thanks folks. Engine is a 1.6. Very hard to trace leak but appears to be on left side of engine...passenger side on under tray. Coolant level on expansion tank just over the low mark. Changed coolant and thermostat. Still emits steam but temp normal. All very odd. Will book in for a compression test.

Is it towards the front of the mx5...
Sounds like it is either the water pump out let L piece or hose....or the T piece on the thermostat housing or hose.
