Whine...from where?

Postby Larz2000 » Fri Oct 13, 2017 9:00 am

I'm hearing a whine only when turning. It's louder at speed, say on a motorway. I only have to turn the steering wheel slightly left or slightly right. It's louder/worse turning left.
I'd liken it to a failing wheelbearing, but wheelbearing noise is constant. This whine can't be heard when going straight ahead.
It's difficult to say whether it's front or back of the car. Perhaps I'm convincing myself it's toward the rear. I don't hear the wine at slow speed, but, maybe only because it's audible at higher speeds.
Any ideas?

Actually, wheel bearing noise is usually quieter when steering straight ad gets louder on turning when more weight moves onto the bearings.
Also check ps fluid level...

Thanks Lazza. That's reassuring to know. I can cope with wheelbearings and power steering too up. I was worrying it might be the diff although there's no other diff-like noises.
