Smart Chargers

Postby blackyb » Sat Jan 16, 2021 9:09 pm

Fellow Menders.

Out of interest I was wondering what chargers, smart or otherwise people use and recommend and for which type of battery.

I currently have two Acumen 900s (did have an Optimate 3 which has packed up) and an Autosmart charger as well as a good old fashioned 6/12 volt charger for the old lead acid batteries .

From what I can make out the Acumen and Autosmart are suitable for all types (as is the Optimate 4)

I have one Acumen plugged into the motorbike simply because of the alarm system and the other Acumen that was wired up to the old battery on the MX.

Now that I have replaced the dead Drivemaster battery with the OEM Panasonic gel, I want to make sure that I use the best smart charger possible to avoid damaging it.

Views and recommendations welcomed.

And yes Wayne, I fitted an earth isolator for the winter months lay down, I just want to make sure I look after the new battery in the hope it lasts as long as the old one did.

Thanks in advance.

We have the Accumate chargers (exspensive) but come with a lot mote kit, and the Aldi ones (£12)...we always use the Aldi ones...not as bulky and easier to use with the LED read out screen, and does the same for a fraction of the cost as the Accumate.
But we also fit isolator cut off switches to all our cars ,so if any are parked up for long periods we turn off the earths which stops bark correct and saves the battery, twist of a wheel and boom no battery drain and away you go..
