There not the best, but BMW will not hold there hands up to it.

The early 5-speed, like in mine was the "Midalnd" box. The later 5-speed cars had a Getrag box which was much better which proved that they did know about the problem.

Good subject!
I've also heard its not a good idea to drive along with the gear lever between your legs. But in 7 years of MX5 driving I've never had a problem!

truck gearstics vibrate a hell of a lot more than car ones so i wouldent worry about the possibility of death from a mx5 gearstick :P , our trucks are all lazy auto's now and the gearstick is replaced with an arm rest :)
I remember the days when ‘Blue Ray’ was an elderly gentleman who drowned in our local swimming pool.
