Hi thanks for the link, it's me who has the problem with the alternator, local garages one wont even look at it the other wants to put a bosch alternator on at a price of 400 quid for the alternator only! while I don't mind spending money on my baby I'm trying to move house to get close to a decent school for the kids.

Usually I do these jobs with my dad in Chester as he's a lot better at these things than me but I cant get the car there!

M-M you may know him John Pattison he has a red mk1 eunos in red.

Thanks for the support, knowing that there was someone nearby to help if i got stuck I had a go on my own... and after a few scraped arms and knuckles... Its fitted and charging.

Hardest bit was removing the inlet manifold support bottom bolt, standard socket was too short (each extention bar on set too long and fouled the sidewall), long reach socket to wide to fit in the channel in the casting (its a very old set), got it loosened with a ring spanner until i could get a socket on it. Whoever designed that bottom bolt that faces forward and wont come out all the way as it hits the support wants shooting.

Slight squeal on from the belt on revving went away after a few minutes bedding in but battery wasnt charging, so I got a new sealed and vented battery and all is well, starts first time like before and runs beautifully, lucky I checked as battery fitted was a halfords wet special, and the vent tubing lying on the floor of the boot unconnected.

If I had known it was going to go this smoothly I would have tried it a long time ago when the alternator seized..

Now about the small oil leak from the rocker cover gasket on the exhaust side....

Thanks again you guys do amazing stuff, I'm moving to north Shropshire in a month, will have a garage there too, so much easier than the roadside.

James
