ARC.....what is it, what does it do and can I upgrade?

Postby MsrVR » Tue Apr 29, 2014 8:24 am

Hi guys,

I have seen a few cars with, what appears to be, an upgraded ARC (I only know this cos I saw one with ARC Magic written on it).

Questions are in the subject box really, can anyone enlighten me please.

They do look nice when polished up. I think they are supposed to give a slight improvement when they are fitted along with the ARC air-box which they rarely come with but it's nowhere near enough to justify the money they go for. Jackson Racing Cold Air Induction kit (JR CAI) works better and sounds a lot better. Still quite expensive though.

People do quite often spend huge sums of money on branded stickers to show their mates down Maccy D's.

Ive done some testing on the arc chamber and its actually 1 product that does work to some extent. Torque was improved. Hp stayed the same. Jackson racing intake improved torque also but hp dropped.. so the arc chamber is probably the better of the 2.

Yeah but lets have some facts Nick, by how much?, is it worth these owners spending a stupid amount of money for such a little gain ? is it something to write home about?

5% at best. Enough to show as a real change on the dyno... would you feel it? Possibly

Also, where is the increase?

If it's all at the top end then it will be hard to notice and make little real difference whereas an increase in torque between 2k and 4k is what will be noticed on the road by most people.

The arc increase was all midrange so where you want it really and throttle response does seem to improve which makes sense due to the larger volume of instantly available air.

.... 3 years later,...

I have an ARC in my 1.6 92 eunos and i genuinely feltbthatnin conjunction with my 4-1 headers, Pipercross foam panel filter and cobalt exhaust it all spins up easier. Many have questioned my findings but thankfully i have found an endorsement by Skuzzle now
