Fitting electric door mirrors to mk1

Postby IrateLemur » Fri Jan 24, 2014 6:04 pm

As title. Is this easy to do? Has anyone done this before or is there a guide for doing so. Had a search and can't find anything.
Thanks

Funny you should bring this up as it is one of the things on mini mm's project roadster hit list, with her being a 1.6 it will need to be done from scratch , so we will be doing a how to on it ,but not high on the list just yet.

I'm a while away from doing it myself. Apparently no one on the internet has done it yet.
Will keep an eye out for any updates.
Thanks

Any update on this. I have the mirrors ready to fit but not sure what else I'll need.

Appreciate this is an old article but I fitted electric mirror to my MK1 if last winter if anyone is still interested? It was pretty straightforward to be honest. Purchased the MK1 electric mirrors (fitted to later editions) and the switch from Autolink (top service as usual). MAKE SURE you also buy the short length of the wiring loom + plug that fits into the switch unit(s) as this makes it soooo much easier to connect all the wiring. Andrew at Autolink charges about £5 for this and I reckon it saved me a ton of effort. I also dug out a wiring diagram and basically followed that (attached). It was a couple of days job to sort the wiring. Getting it through the door and into the car is the PITA bit but the electrical wiring part wasn't a problem as you simply follow the wiring diagram and use the colour coding on the wire ends that you already have sticking out of the switch plug(s), etc.

OH...you also need longer bolts for fitting the later mirrors (the ones fitted are either too short ) Andrew at Autolink will know and I'm sure he sells them?

I love the new mirrors since fitted and actually prefer them to the original manual mirrors :-)
