Hi,

I will be fitting new drop links to my MK2 and would appreciate any hints or tips in fitting them.

Thanks

Chock the wheels, Jack her up and whip the wheels off.

You should find it relatively straight forward.

If you cant get the old ones to undo, a bit of gentle grinding work with a slitting disc to cut the old nuts off, just dont cut into the hangers.

Reassembly, a bit of copper grease on the threads is what I did, some say you shouldnf but some say you should.

Either way its one of the simpler jobs on an MX.

1998 UK Mk 2 1.6 (gone)
2003 1.8 SVT Sport (shouldnt have sold it)
1991 1.6 Eunos Roadster with a bit of bling.

Most likely issue is as blackyb pointed out, seized nuts on the old drop links. they are right in the salty spray line!

If you have chance, give them a good clean up with a wire brush and a good soaking with a pentrating oil several times over a few days before you do the job. It may or may not help!

Other than that they are a simple straight forward job.

Unless they are brand new and not been fitting long and protected with copper slip for any further work in the future, then don't mess around and cut them off to be replaced..cut straight through the bar of the link first ,watch out as they are under tension, take the tension off by jacking up the bottom bone with the OE jack.
Once cut in two it will give you more room to play with to be able to cut/remove the rest of the link, cutting the nut side off.
Plenty of copper slip on build up, use the OE jack to jack the bottom bone up to help in fitting the new ones.
