Just a quick query. I want to change the fuel filter on my mk2 roadster and I am aware of the need to depressurise the system. My query is which pins to bridge in the diagnostic box to reboot the fuel pump as they are not labelled. The fuel pump pin and earth pin are the ones to select but which ones are they? Anybody got a diagram?

remove fuel cap

remove fuel pump relay from fuse box inside car

start engine and allow to stall from lack of fuel

crank engine a few times - pressure now gone

turn ign off

Health and saftey........disconnect battery ground lead.

Thats great for preparing the old filter for removal. What I need to know is which pins in the diagnostic box are to be bridged to reboot the fuel pump! Or are you suggesting that this is not required and that simply making the broken connection does the biz and cranking alone will repressurise the system?

SSSSS0000000000000 much easier on a MK 1, you just need to clamp the pipes and off it comes....

High - Just had a look at a video on u-tube 'Mazda Miata fan' episode 7 - fuel filter replacement. It takes you through the whole procedure. I did notice that the lid of the diagnostic box on the car being worked on had a sticker showing what all the pin outs were. This is not present on my car and I am reluctant to put the bridging wire in just anywhere.
The other slight difference to your method Wayne is that he disconnected the fuel pump connector under the removable panel underneath the steering column. Am I right in assuming that you took out the fuse to the fuel pump?

Only the earlier cars had the sticker.

That is the same for all Mk1/2/2.5 :-)

I have my own way of doing this on the 2/2.5's, but we have to post up all the bunff about the health and saftey way, the Mk 2 and 2.5 diagnonstic box never had a sticker in the lid only the Mk 1's had them.

Lazza that is or should be just what the mazda doctor ordered. Unfortunatley my car has more pins than is shown on the diagram :angry-screaming: The ground and fuel pump are covered by the pin positions in my diagnostic box its just that their are others as well.
Don't want to put my bridge in to something that is unrelated to the fuel pump in case I damage something. Why do things have to be so difficult? What do you think, referring to the photo's?

The Mk 1 as the same amount of pins as the MK 2/2.5, you just use the ones that are marked up and shown in the diagram only, regardless of Mk 1/2/2.5 models or versions.

As Wayne says, all you need to think about is those labelled in the picture. They are in the same place on all Mk1/2. The extra pins are used by the diagnostics reader device they use at dealerships.

I have done the fuel pumps on all of my cars, 1 x MKI and 2 x MK2 and have only ever removed the relay. The pump re-primes itself.
