Mk1 aircon advice

Postby paggers » Sun May 26, 2013 10:20 pm

My '91 Roadster has aircon that is currently non-functional. The previous owner assured me that it worked, just needed a re-gas, but then I have heard that once or twice before. I also understand that getting a re-gas on these older systems is a problem as (1) they used a different now obsolete type of gas, and (2) the connectors are different so modern aircon gear will not connect to them.

I know one option would just be to rip the aircon out but I'm not quit ready to go there yet. So my question is whether there is somewhere in my neck of the woods (Warrington) that can check out my elderly aircon, confirm if it is servicable, and if so fill it up? Or is that only possible with one of these conversion kits that I have heard of?

It depends have a look for the sticker which tells you the gas they used mines 18 years old and uses r134a which is still a current gas for the air con.

Mixing is the only problem. An empty system can take any gas...

I hate to be pedantic...but it's both, depending which side of the compressor you're looking at. :-)

All sounds good - so do we have a recommended outfit in the NW for our aircon needs? Or do I need to start calling around?

Jon,
to be really pedantic, it is a gas both sides of the compressor. It is the Condensor that cools the gas into a liquid. :obscene-buttsway:

Being the owner of a 91 Eunos with air con that doesn't cool, I am interested in the results and out come of this topic!!

Our local air con exspurts (experts) all say I have to have loads of work done to be able to re-gas mine with the new greener stuff.
1993 1.6 Eunos Roadster (gone)
1998 UK Mk 2 1.6 (gone)
2003 1.8 SVT Sport (shouldnt have sold it)
1991 1.6 Eunos Roadster with a bit of bling.

Life is a journey, best travelled topless in an MX5!!
