*****SOLD ****G-ltd arrives at Wayne mansion ( Mel B) Renovation story, Build 012***SOLD*****
So how did this one happen...welcome to build 012...
I was looking at a daily ,She was going to be the Spare fully sorted with all of us insured to use incase any of ours needed to come of the road for any reason, and I was looking at something different with character also...and ending up looking at the smart Roadsters, plenty of home work was done on the subject including getting a lap top with software and all the hardware to be able to do anything on one the difference in BHP between the early and late version and specials etc etc....so long story short.....after a good couple of weeks of research and asking people that owned them....it was stick with the devil you know as i know the mazda roadsters inside out and have stacks of parts if needed ...
I spotted a Mk 2 import VS in green which was a auto also with 66,000 in green 1.8 cat C but all good with all the pics etc sent of the reason why it was marked as a C and rot free...ÂŁ500, i wanted her as a daily but it finished on xmas day and was in sussex...
So i had this one on a watch also and was a little closer so i ended up with another buy after a long back and forth conversation with the owner and agreed a price with an hand shake..this time a Japanese market import G-ltd 1.8 Auto with 88,000 miles on her in not to bad of condition, i always see a good special edition Mk 1 as an investment these days she as been looked after but needs that extra love and passion, she is pretty standard which is good apart form the seats which have been re-covered in cream leather and blue, the crash pad is in cream leather and the door caps, so they will all need to be changed, she as mazda sill skirts added a front lip spoiler and rear boot lid spoiler with brake light, a chrome style bar and a wind blocker , so they will be sorted and all back to standard, alloys have been painted a graphite grey colour,so they will be repainted the correct colour, and the blue roof as been swapped for a black vinyl so that will need to be changed...
It was a horrid drive home to wayne manssion, she was way down on power, the brakes were there somewhere, get her to 50+ (which took and age to get to) and it was scary, i would honestly say it was the worst drive i have ever had with one of these roadsters, and with my heart in my mouth i did wonder if i had done the wrong thing while on the motorway following the good lady in her rescue Honda if needed and was looking forward to get home ,park up and get out safe.
So first job was to get he passenger side window working, so the switch was taken apart and the contacts that were carboned up, so cleaned up ,back together and the window as life again all be it slow until the door cards come off and i attack all the internals of everything while in there.
There is some bubbles on the bottom sill/arch of the rear drivers side ...but nothing major that i cannot sort myself.
The bonnet is up a little tight to the front of the nose cone so looks like it as had a little kiss or nudge at some point so just needs adjustment again, the battery as been changed from a wet cell and the negative battery connection as been butchered with another aftermarket crappy thing ...so i'll sort that out the bottom bracket is toast and will need grinding out then drilling and re-tapping to fit a new one including the L shape bracket, so once in new battery tray , top holding bracket and J bolt and battery, boot carpet is missing and battery cover carpet, so they will be sorted, the wire for the rear fog light brick is wired direct to the battery and runs all the way through the cab and then another twin core washing line runs back again across the boot to the light unit. so all that will be sorted, the speakers are laughable so new ones will be fitted and a HU ...
Engine bay will get jizzed and then a full service will be done,,,cam seals, crank seal, rocker seal,CAS seal, water pump, cam belt, idle and tensioner and spring,Aux belts, oil filter, oil ,spark plugs, antifreeze, gearbox oil change and diff, fuel filter, brakes serviced and fresh fluid, tyres, alignment, under sealed and box sections, and a set of matching head lights , two new number plates and a jap spec front plate holder mount, remove the roof and check the drainage points , clean everything, check the rain rail and refit(blue with any luck) , MK 2 suspension will be fitted also, and will fit a manual box etc and convert to a 5 spd manual, and then anything else she might need as i go...
Pics to follow.

Re: The G-ltd arrives at wayne mansion
Looks like you have some more Mazda Mender fetling to get on with. Keep looking for a decent mk1 special edition but the wife wants a new car so looks like my planned addition will be on the back burner. Still mine might not be a special edition but she is very special to me.
Topic added to my follow list.

Re: The G-ltd arrives at wayne mansion
Sorted the battery area, it was just surface batch rust ..most of it came off wirh waynes wipes, cans of the OE colour are on there way ...which is A5..negative battery connection...and battery brackets ..plus a few other things in the boot .....resprayed the jack and brace and the wheel holding bolt and holding washer.the aerail and HRW fuse box is now sercure again and the drainage to the aerail as been re-added.
Found some headlight units to be fitted as the ones that are on are odd..one is a conversion and the other is a sealed unit...found a lift motor cover.front jap number plate holder and a set of front indicator/side light conversion units....set of the OE seats on there way...found a battery tray and all bits and a gel panisonic battery...fresh bolts ready to re-fit everything....
Charged up the cordless angled drill to drill out the studs from grinding out the bolt heads and what was left of the battery securing bracket...so i'll fit all that tomorrow..

Re: The G-ltd arrives at wayne mansion
So the battery area is all done par the correct colour being applied when it arrives and the securing bracket to arrive yet...studs drilled out ...tray,vents, J bolt and top bracket....sound proofing re-stuck back in place..OE gel Panasonic battery waiting to be fitted also...
Made a new seal for the rear cluster as it was leaking into the boot which would of helpped in the rotting out the battery securing bracket as well as crap cheap batteries...waiting in a boot carpet and battery cover..
Changed the front headlights,as the ones that were on were odd...and all the nuts bolt and screws were re-moved ,greased and put back again....also changed the front indicator/side lights that i have converted...as the ones that were on the side lights on them were shot any way.
Also fitted a JDM number plate holder that would of been fitted in Japan ..so number plates to be cut...also found a lift motor cap .
Dug out some front and rear mud gaurds to be fitted
She as a had a good wash and wax...
Next is re-wire the rear fog light and new switch..speaker and HU...

Re: A G-ltd arrives at wayne mansion
Added a battery isolater switch sorted the wiring for the rear fog lamp, the autospark that fitted this was a special kind of stupid. He had run a live wire direct off the battery to the switch through the cab and then run a twin core back through the cab from the switch which was a live return and a looped earth from behind the dash piggy backed from the switch into the boot across the boot floor ( which would of been under the carpet ) to the rear lamp...the twin core was melting on the boot floot from the heat off the back box and to top it all no in line fuse anywhere for a constant live wire...
So ripped it all out and started again correct with the wire run safer, added a new illuminated rear red fog light switch , moved the immobiliser switch for the minute, no battery on at the minute to test for a head light live for the rear fog lamp so left it in place ready to connect up..

Seems you've been busy bossman. Glad you didn't buy the smart Roadster, worst gearbox in human history. I'm enjoying this thread.

Re: A G-ltd arrives at wayne mansion
Found a battery cover ,but is an early one which is black and the wrong colour, Autolinkmx5 have come to the rescue and found a grey one for me,I took both inners of the doors out for a clean ,grease up/silicon lube re-fitted and adjustment so window mechs, locks and latches etc are working like new again, the cheap nasty speakers were removed and a set of sony ones fitted, another set of door cards were also fitted so the top cap is now correct and black with tear drop speaker covers, the speaker grills had a little surface rust so a quick light rub over and fresh paint applied and all fitted it back up again, i also found a JDM dash carpet so that's going on also .
Dash crash pads on there way and the battery bracket from Autolinkmx5...New HU on its way..i also noticed the interior lights are not working ,so will sort them which will be a simple case of taking the items apart and cleaning them up the copper contacts...
Need to fit a lights left on alarm, RHW switch...

Re: A G-ltd arrives at wayne mansion
When the heater was on screen demised i noticed there was not a lot coming through the vents, so felt down into the passenger side foot well and as i guessed air blowing cold, which means the eater trunking seals need re doing which there is 2 of, a triangle one behind the glove box and a square one further along behind the dash, the seals have a sponge /foam seal which dries out and perishes over time and turns to dust losing their seal.
So it is a case of removing the seal brackets, removing the old sponge/foam and sticking fresh on and re-fitting them and it will be better than new..
Old sponge/foam on brackets...
Old sponge/foam removed and new added ready for re-fitting....
