Finally finished under-sealing my car... It took the best part of a week to scrape, kurust and paint. I hate UNDER-SEALING! Pictures to follow. Also, we fitted the rear lip spoiler (very nice). Tomorrow we change my 1.6 brakes to 1.8 the full brake system is being upgraded; disks, pads, fluid, already have braided hoses, calipers. Also, thinking of naming the car. Any suggestions?

I like to name my cars (not that I ever really call them by it) and it's not an easy task. Usually I try to find something using some combination of the letters on the registration plate, hence the Mk1 is called 'Candice' - partly because of the letters CD in the registration and partly because it's green which could be argued as a sort of candy colour. My Avensis is 'Vesper' but that's pretty easy to see from the registration which has VE_5_P_ in it (and before anyone asks nothing to do with scooters, think more the Bond girl from Quantum of Silence).

However, the Mk2 is called Rebecca which could fit with it being an R plate but actually came from a joke that BenF made a while back so I'm not completely consistent.

In the end naming your car is a very personal thing. After all, you are going to be spending a lot of time together.

DOT4 spec, minimal. Although it makes bleeding from standard a breeze! DOT5.1, yes, very much, especially when the fluid temp goes over 150-160C :handgestures-thumbup:

Edit- I should add that DOT5 fluids are silicone and not recommended for anything other than a dry system, I.e. don't mix the two types

Does the 5.1 have any side affects with the servo?

No mate, the servo is only a vacuum multiplier acting on the master cylinder. What were you thinking?

Is the 5.1 a thicker fluid to resist high temps, making the system work harder

No. It has a more thermally stable base - silicone - rather than polyethylene glycol. But the downside is its nastier to handle, harder to bleed (lots if you aerate it) and the mot man doesn't like it. Although most couldn't tell the difference IMO :handgestures-thumbup:

Oh and a note for anyone reading this; never use silicone fluid on an ABS car a) because bleeding an ABS pump is the worst and most time consuming job in the world and b) because silicone holds air like you've never seen, and bubbles will form in the pump, the pump will cavitate when you really need your brakes (an abs situation) and you'll be pushing on froth: I.e. they won't work. That's assuming you got all the old fluid out because if not the two fluids combined may have destroyed the seals.
Death type stuff could happen, so be careful!
