Wavey mk2

Postby Coldy » Sat Sep 03, 2016 9:40 pm

The Mrs actually got me into the little Mazda convertibles we hold so close to our hearts. After she spectacularly binned her previous mk2 we found this twilight blue import in lovely condition.

Initially I bought and painted some 15 inch wheels in the same style, fitted the k&n panel filter and the front grille from the crashed car and had fresh plates made with the wavey hand logo. The Mrs loves the culture of waving at other mx5s.

The car is in such good condition most of the work has been preserving what is already there.

Polishing and waxing is always worthwhile and satisfying on this car.

It gets entered into the 'daily driving' catagory at the rallies. The Mrs only has this car so it genuinely is driven daily all over.

Taken at the last rally where knights and princesses we're the theme.

It also had the headlight changed for aftermarket 2.5 items. This required a loom to be built to utilise the existing wiring with the new Angel eye units. It also required the bumper to be modified for the slight change in the profile of the new lights.

Started to clean the car today in preparation of the upcoming rally. It was well overdue, the spiders had moved in.

Luckily because we have looked after the paint well in the past it took a very short space of time to have her shining once again.

At the moment, I'm currently freshening up some Rota wheels for this car for the upcoming Rally and to be used for trackways and hill climbs in the future.

Mean while the car itself needed a really good clean.
Judging by the spiders, while I was working abroad, cleaning the car was left by the wayside...

Luckily It didn't take much to bring it back to its shiny self - This was helped by the care the paint has previously received.

That's a great colour and the metalwork youve done is bordering on obsessive,.... my kind of mender!
1. A car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, 2. Resale wont save your life in an accident, 3. Genius has limits, stupidity has none, 4. Never argue with an idiot, they will bring you down to their level & beat you with experience, 5. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young!

The morning of the rally we were doing the final prep for the Daily Driver category in the competition. The idea is for cars to be judged on how they are presented, rather than their condition (due to their use). Unfortunately there were no trophies this time, although we got some good feedback and the areas on which we had concentrated passed with flying colours. The mrs was quite disappointed but she had some tough competition - Michelle only has this car, I do get the feeling for some of her fellow competitors, they may not be used as regularly as the competition suggests....

It was a great excuse to give the car a really good clean and get some more pictures. It was also nice to be part of the show.
