Well, managed a small fettling session in between the weekend monsoon downpours, got my Jass number plate brackets on and the plate moved off the smashed plinth - don't like them there anyway. Of course, the bolts that the jass brackets bolt to snapped off, naturally, but i got them replaced with a bolt/washer combo after much fiddling. Plinth holes filled & painted, scratches etc where the plinth was came out nicely with some G3 scratch remover then G3 paint restorer.

Think it looks better now, but it has made me want mesh TSIs even more :shifty: and maybe a smaller plate. And a lip. Does the spending urge ever end with these?

My plate is screwed straight through the bumper, not good. I got a new plinth of gumtree for a ÂŁ5 so might use that but yours looks so clean without any. I would love a sticky but are they legal?

No not a sticky, they are crap.
You can have a UK plinth, and side mount, a bottom mount like Vlads, Jap one fixed, jap one of the bumper, there are far more options that will look far better.

 Wayne!!! I've had a sticky plate on mine for the last 8 years-ish!
Not strictly legal but also not illegal. As long as the sizing & spacing is right then the police don't care. Mine never has a problem at MOT time but maybe you should check with your chosen MOT station to make sure they would be happy with it.

...you can use them if there is no other option, technically. The only real issue there is that the plate isn't vertical.
You'll find that many italian cars - Ferrari, Lamborghini, Alfa-Romeo, etc - wouldn't get type approval under UK law if it was rigidly enforced as there's no allowance for a front plate or it's far too small. In fact almost all manufacturers would fail as the rear plate isn't vertical either! :handgestures-thumbup:

I had a chat to my tester about cars with stick-ons and his reply was "as long as you can read it clearly from the prescribed distance and it has the right marks, it's a pass". This does require it to be roughly vertical (or else it will look too short from the front) and not too curved, but otherwise there is no reason to fail it, regardless of the age of the car.

If you ever have issues with tests Ben, let me know.... :-)

Oops can of worms on the number plate... MOTs here are all government controlled and very strict but I will ask them when I am in next month. Fingers crossed.

The rules are fairly simple and no mention is made of how they are attached to the vehicle. They must be clearly legible, of the correct colours and font and be reflex-reflective.

The only potential failure points for an MoT test are: 1) the tester can't read it clearly from the prescribed distance (due to damage or placement). 2) there is no BS Kite Mark. If there is a BS mark and the thing is non-compliant then it isn't a fail, but you and the person making it up can be fined. Testers are not expected to test its compliance with the British Standards...

The biggest problem with stick-ons is that most are not reflex-reflective so can't get a kite mark.
