Rain rail sorted

Postby richf » Tue Jul 14, 2015 7:39 pm

During the winter we had a problem with the the misses car and for a while it meant I had to transport her and 2 dogs in my mk2. Having a hard top stashed away, I decided to remove the soft top for a while so I could use the space behind the seats for the dogs. This worked quite well. I stored the hood in my hard top bag. Fine I thought. Replaced the hood after checking out the rain rail and thought everything was fine. Had it all bolted together when I noticed there was a crease in the rail. I unbolted the rail and tried every way which way to get rid of it even using a heat gun (mildly) but it kept on returning. It probably happened in the storage bag. I eventually used a piece of plastic tubing within the rain rail to maintain the space. It seems to be working fine, had a couple of days rain and the hose pipe on it with no leaks. Upon reflection perhaps I should have just taken the dogs and let the misses walk.

Job done then. But you'll need to check from time to time that no debris is trapped ;-)
