Headrest speakers

Can anyone recommend some good quality and reasonably priced headrest speakers for my MK2.

Will all the necessary wiring be there in the seats? I am not sure whether my mk2 1800rs would have originally had the speakers and they have since been removed?

Another job for the "Mazda Mender" maestro I feel...

I am sure someone more knowledgeable will give a definitive reply but my old mk2 didn't have head rest speakers fitted originally, so I fitted some!!!

MK 2.5 used a sound board/wind blocker, which you can get for your Mk 2 and run the cables , or you can retro fit some speakets into a standard blocker and run the wires to the HU, like I have, All Mk 2's/ 2.5's never had headrest speakers fitted, only the Mk 1 Eunos Roadster.

Would that do the trick? What other bits do I need, connectors, cables, wiring, etc. Any particular make of speakers that I would need to get to fit this?

I note that the soundboard only works with genuine Mazda style bars.... Silly question but how would I know whether my style bar was genuine Mazda?

I seem to be in the minority here but I've never liked headrest/wind blocker speakers. It just feels wrong to have music coming at me from behind my head. I've always preferred improving the door speakers and adding an amp so that the music is coming from in front of me. The quality of the sound from door speakers will always be better than from small speakers with no resonance space behind them in a headrest or windblocker too.

I agree with you Lazza. I bought a Wind-blocker/ Soundbar , but in the end I just paid extra for good qaulity door speakers. Like you say door speakers much better.

I had a sound board fitted as standard on my Mk2.5 as its a Euphonic. Generally the speakers were too small to evem notice whether they were working or not.

Ive had it removed to make way for a roll bar, but ive got hold of a standard windblocker which I am modifying to it can house sound speakers and sit with the roll bar. The speakers in question would normally go in the door, so hoping the sound should be decent. Might also need an amp though.

I fancy making a rear shelf with space for a couple of speakers but I'd only fit bass drivers in it. You can't hear sub-bass directionally, which is why bass boxes in boots work well. Working around the rear roll cage is the problem. And having little skill with a wood-saw If I did that I could make the sound from the front speakers "brighter" and filter out the sub from them so they would be much less prone to distortion.

Not that an MX5 is ever going to be a good environment for quality stereo systems, especially one with a supercharger, loud exhaust and noisy tyres.

Thanks to all the responses. After much deliberation I have decided to stick with my door speakers - they are Bose so are good quality. And I guess if I struggle to hear the stereo with the top down I simply crank up the volume!

Or you could always convert a standard wind blocker like i as done bro....

I like those Wayne. Oh God, I used to be indecisive but now I am not so sure! I will have a chat with you about this when I get her serviced and have the brake calipers fitted.....
