Lovely guide and was working through this today. Quick question about the locating pin between the handbrake actuator and the threaded inner shaft. You say that you know when it's in the right place as when you actuate the lever you can feel the pin and mechanism move in and out slightly. That sounds fine and is exactly what happened. But then you put the circlip in which I presume stops it moving in and out. Is it supposed to stop it?
Once all assembled and before I replace the spring I could pull the handbrake lever up a few mil - maybe 5mm. Is that supposed to happen also?

To answer the question way back about the hex size of the adjuster that's 4mm.
Also Autolink are currently doing a really good deal on handbrake cable sets - on-line only.
Being unable to achieve satisfactory adjustment for the handbrake I thought about removing the cables and oiling them with my m/cycle cable oiler but given their price it hardly seems worth the aggro.
HTH.
Cheers, Fivex2.

Thanks Mm vv I'll check that out. Presumably the arms seize/corrode and the fix is????

Are you 100% sure that it is the cables and not the caliper handbrake arm at fault.

M-m thanks for that.
I got down and dirty this w/end and kind of sorted it.
I reckon the difficulty in adjusting probably stems from the fact that the cables have stretched unequally.
Certainly the balance bar was highly biased to one cable.
Despite indications to the contrary I've adjusted the outers to compensate and the adjustment is OK until I fit the new cables from A/link.
At the same time I intend refurbing a pair of calipers I have on the shelf from the parts car but all that can wait until I replace the clutch......
Cheers, Fivex2
BTW great website - practical as well as friendly :text-thankyouyellow:

Like to just say thanks for this "how to". Gave me the courage to do my calipers.
Bought the seal kit, took the barke apart to find that I'm missing the "spring" pieces that go on the pads and that the pistons are ... dead. Someone, at some time, had tried to pull them out with pliers or some kind of grips. Left deep marks on the cylinder and seal edge. Need new pistons now.
