Website Structure

Postby eunosmike » Tue Feb 14, 2012 9:50 pm

Hi admin

I logged on to find out about getting a new key cut for my MK1 Eunos Roadster.

I first went to FAQs & HOW TO to search for a solution before generating a new thread.

May I suggest that if the site is to be a source of technical excellence where people can come for solutions the FAQ section needs to be more comprehensively structured. I notice that in the FORUM there is a section for Problems, and this is sub-divided into MK1, MK2 & MK3 sections. Could not the FAQ section be similarly structured. I appreciate that in a great deal of situations a "Problem" may very well be appropriate across all models, but I suspect that there could be some mileage in the proposal. Is the presence of "Problems" in the FORUM not detracting from the purpose of the FAQ section. After all a forum is a meeting place for people to gather to talk, not a garage with people who know what they are talking about.

Additionally, I appreciate that a problem with an alternator could be covered in a section on "Engine" and "Electrical". I appreciate the difficulties you guys will be having, you can't please all the people all the time, and I trust my suggestions are taken in the good spirit in which they are intended.

So, not being able to find any posts on getting extra keys cut, any body any ideas where I can go.

Cheers guys,

Mike

Hi Mike, thanks for the suggestions and I am sure that new sections can and will be created as the Forum grows with both content and questions.

As for the key being cut, have you tried your local shoe repair place for key cutting?

yup, the FAQ's will get structured as they go. It's one of them things.. Until we know what guides we are writing and what people are using its hard to tell the best method for structuring.
I'll bare it in mind for the near future.

Next on the agenda is a search function for the FAQ's

Hi Captain and Wayne

I have a had a key cut already, a couple of years ago. Not from Timsons but from a local independent shoe repairer.

I remember testing it to get into the car when I first had it cut. It did not work. The guy had another go and the second one got me into the car. It was only recently I dug it out to try in the ignition. It still gets me into the car but won't operate the ignition!

So, a bit reluctant to try again unless anybody knows one that has actually cut one successfully before. The original I have is very worn so I am thinking this may be contributing to the problem.

Is it the OE one with numbers on it and the Eunos badge, if so those numbers can be used to cut a new key ,in this case i would get two done.
There was a Key smiths on deansgate in manchester, that we used to use many moons ago, who use to cut us keys from the numbers off the door lock barrels, if we lost any off the fresh imported roadsters sat in the yard.

Hi Wayne

The key has a black plastic cover at the end that won't come off easily.

On one side it has TLH, on the other MS392. Does this help?

There are no other visible markings.

I have just been doing some more research and believe Dandy Cars can do one.

I think that possibly I am going to need to look at the door barrel

No Mike
It is not the OE key, if you go through dandy cars they will need the number to cut the new key i should imagine.

I have found that old worn keys don't cut very well as the old key and barrel are both worn in the same places and the new key will always have sharp edges that the barrel no longer has. Not easy to fix usually.
