Oh dear, my car has just failed its MOT with a whole bunch of issues that I don't have time or skills to repair. So it is off to the great car park in the sky.
It has worn out rear tyres, (easily replaced and not a problem)
Floor excessively deteriorated Offside Front
Suspension compnent ball joint excessively worn (Off side front lower)
Coil spring fractured or broken (Nearside Front)
Vehicle structure corroded to the extent that the rigidity of the assembly is significantly reduced (Offside front)
Mostly it is the welding that I do not have skills or facilities to deal with, but I just don't think it is worth it considering it has the following other issues:
Totally worn out roof (lots of holes and leaks like a seive) an rain rail
Rotten front wings (I know these are simple bolt ons)
Water leak from the cooling system (minor I think)
loses some oil - I suspect, but haven't really investigate as it is a very slow loss, that it is the rear crank case oil seal
needs a new engine under tray, and the bit that connects it to the bumper
A new rear bumper
The rear wheel arches have blistering paint and scabby edges
Both sills are starting to look weak - especially around the jacking points
That is about all I can think of, but it is a very long list!
It has done 174000 miles, and I have done all bar the first 35000 of those, so I really can't complain!
Oh well, onwards and upwards. I have seen a Mk3 with low mileage, at what looks like a very good price fairly local to me, looks like that will be my next car!
What you put in, you'll get back ten fold

End of the road for my Mk 2.5
Re: End of the road for my Mk 2.5
Sounds like you will have some wonderful memories tucked away having covered all those miles.
It's a shame its in a fairly poor state, the mk2s and 2.5s seemed to suffer with corrosion more than the mk1s ever did.
You have to consider the value of the car against the cost of repairs and it sounds like yours is perhaps on the wrong side of fix it.
I look after a mates mk3, it is showing the early signs of corrosion around the arches which he is going to get fixed asap.
You will soon be out there again in an MX as once bitten it's hard to give it up.

If you get the Mk3 invest in underneath protection and all the box sections injected...that way you will have a drop top that will last.

Re: End of the road for my Mk 2.5
Thanks both. I will really miss the old car, had some fantastic times in it - unlike Lucy Jordan I have ridden through Paris in a sports car with the warm wind in my hair (although to be fair I did not manage it before reaching the age of 37!)
I am planning to inveest in underbody protection, I don't want this one to go the same way.
