Do You Use OEM or Pattern Parts.

Postby Mr Bridger » Fri Jun 22, 2018 8:39 pm

My wifes Mk1 requires a few bits & pieces, primarily a rocker cover gasket an clutch master cylinder. The price difference between genuine Mazda parts and pattern parts is significant.

What is the general consensus on the quality of pattern parts vs. OEM?

A bit of both
ABS sensor from Euro car parts about a quarter of the OEM part and is in a box that is very similar to Mazda packaging , brake pads, oil / air filter and so on.
My Mk 2.5 has just consumed its second battery in 16 years, one at about 5 years the last over 10 years old , both mainly due to forgetting to connect Optimate , this time it is an OEM part ,but from MX5 Parts , as Mazda appear to only keep major parts , ever tried to get an alarm/central locking door switch ? according to Mazda does not even exist , they did though have all the parts for a cam belt change , and there I did stick to OEM . so ya pays Ya money ………

Depends on what I want, general service items oem via either Autolink or Eurocarparts and at times MX5 parts.

Major components I always try for manufacturer parts when I can.

As MXRod says, you pays your money
1993 1.6 Eunos Roadster (gone)
1998 UK Mk 2 1.6 (gone)
2003 1.8 SVT Sport (shouldnt have sold it)
1991 1.6 Eunos Roadster with a bit of bling.

Life is a journey, best travelled topless in an MX5!!

Some are better than Oe parts, but not a lot...remember Mazda themselves do not make the parts, they are branded Mazda for them and bought in.
