Space saver tyres - do they fit in the boot ok?

Postby norriscole » Mon Sep 04, 2017 11:27 am

I've noticed space saver tyres can now be purchased for mark 3 and 3.5 models . It's a great improvement on that pathetic aerosol idea. However, the overall wheel and tyre diameter must be just over 24inches and having checked my boot size it seems to me to be a very tight squeeze to get one in. Has anyone purchased one and do they fit in ok without a load of fiddling about?

It's a popular thing for MK 3 owners to do, but unsure about how it fits buddy.

There is a Hyundai that has a similar size wheel and tyre.

It only fits on the rear as the front caliper gets in the way.

Therefore if you get a front tyre puncture you have to change a rear tyre first then use that to do the front.

From about 2010, I cannot remember the exact date, Mazda stopped supplying a jack so you will have to check that and get a jack if it is missing.

Then the final problem if you get a puncture on a normal staying at home driving day there is not much room for the spare or the punctured tyre.

If you are away from home with two people, the boot will be fully with two overnight bags and jackets etc.

Even if the space saver fits in with your extra stuff. The full size punctured tyre will not fit in the boot. Where do you put that if there is a second passenger.

OK if you are on your own.
