Bl**dy so**ing Nora!!!!!!

Postby Badknee » Sat Jan 25, 2014 2:41 pm

All set this morning to do a service on Roy our Roadster, checked with Wayne on what lubes I needed (thanks luvvie) waiting for my lad to come over and do the crawling about on the floor thing and he's poorly and sounded terrible on the phone.

Ok thinks I, I will move Roy over in the garage to get at both sides as I want to get the wheels off, that's when I find out the battery is as flat as a fluke!! Battery on charge and onto another job I have been meaning to do.

I have a major problem with condensation on the inside of the garage roof when there is a quick and sudden change in temp outside, it drips off the steel beams and the underside of the cement board, so, I have bought some louvred panels and am going to drill the timber at the top of the side walls and put the grills over the holes to let air in.

Get the steps out, marker to line them up, gets the grills and screws, cordless drill, ah yes you guessed it............ The bl**dy battery was flat!!!!

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, Angela, is the bar open yet? :obscene-drinkingcheers:

To be a bit boring awhile...

Batteries are and will increasingly become, the bane of our lives. The technology is lagging WAY behind our demands...which is why phones from 20 years ago lasted a week on one charge, now they hardly last a day. Li-Ion is the best we can manage at the moment, and unfortunately Lithium is pretty much run out already. Canada has a little, and China has some...but China has now placed HUGE tariffs on its export so that only Chinese companies can use it cheaply...even so, we maybe have 10 years' worth left.

There is a Nobel prize and infinite riches in it for anyone who can come up with a viable alternative that works well, and doesn't use rare materials to make.

Over to you!

Jon,
A bit of the ol blue sky thinking :confusion-confused: , but when I get the Missus upset, there seems to be an infinite amount of energy available. What we needs is some means of harvesting that energy. Everytime your phones starts to lose power just tell her you don't like those shoes / dress / handbag etc...

I've seen someone light an LED with a hamster...but when you add up the food and all that, it would've been cheaper to plug it into the mains.

Energy harvesting is starting to become a bigger thing now and there are a lot of new components and techniques to use it (kind of like an automatic watch on steroids) to capture energy from motion, heat and light...but it's still pretty new and, well...crap. Fuel cells would be great if free Hydrogen was available, but it's not - a means of extracting Hydrogen from water without using gigawatts of electricity is really the key to it all.

i am going to stay away from nora i never hear a good word about her !

as for the hampster i think they charge like a battery but beware overcharging causes them to pop and red battery liquid goes everywhere
I remember the days when ‘Blue Ray’ was an elderly gentleman who drowned in our local swimming pool.

My boss has enough hot air coming out of his mouth he goes on so much he could run a turbine.

I still like the hamster idea 'cos when they croak we could eat them.
