Hello from North Manchester

Postby Danielintheuk » Wed Jul 27, 2022 1:45 pm

Hi all, good to be here . Recently bought myself a mk2 mx5. Had a mk1 about 15 years ago and always had it in mind that I fancy owning one again. So this one is a 2004, 54000 miles , and I'm the 4th ( or 5th) owner . Seems to be in good condition but I want to make sure it doesn't turn into an expensive pile of rust.
Visited Wayne on Saturday, lovely chap and very very knowledgeable on these cars, came away knowing a lot more about these cars.
So my main task for the car is to protect the underneath and arches etc. Ideally I'd have Wayne do the work but just can't budget for it, so going to see what I can manage to do myself .

First question ... where is a good place to position axle stands on these so I can work underneath it safely

TIA

Dan :)

Totally agree with Mm. I am lucky in that my mate has a garage with a pit, a four poster and a new two post lift so I blag the use of them to check the underseal. Used to use a hand wind 3 in 1 lift and axle stands.
1993 1.6 Eunos Roadster (gone)
1998 UK Mk 2 1.6 (gone)
2003 1.8 SVT Sport (shouldnt have sold it)
1991 1.6 Eunos Roadster with a bit of bling.

Life is a journey, best travelled topless in an MX5!!

Will just be doing this outside at front of house , don't have a garage etc, know I'm not going to be able to do anywhere near as good as could be done, but reckon something is better than nothing.

Plan is to wire brush, then apply rust treatment, then zinc primer, then etch primer , then some black paint / underseal .
