New member in Somerset

Postby mk1_Nigel » Wed Jul 17, 2019 8:51 pm

Hello to all from another new member from Somerset.
I found "Grace" 4 years ago now sat all forgotten in a barn and so much has changed from then !!
I had never had or considered an Mx5 before, I was an avid 2 wheel jockey but do to medical issues that changed but I still needed something to tinker with.
So the journey began, she was standard initially but that was never going to last, I enjoy my track days and she has and still is going through changes to improve those days.
Now she has.... HSD mono pro suspension, ILS bushes throughout, Stainless manifold and twin exit exhaust, xxr 527 wheels (8.25j et0) and arches, braided brake lines new calipers, re-trimmed seats, flat bottom steering wheel, ILS stainless bigger radiator, smoothed door cards, new nose (veilside kit, some love some hate !! ) oil cooler, Bonnet vents and gauges for the impending turbo conversion, bumper cut and lots of little bits that I have forgotten.
I have loved every minute of the journey so far and have so much more to come. I look forward to meeting, waving and popping my lights to each and everyone of you in time.

Welcome to mender land.

Nice looking MX you have there and work in progress always keeps me interested.

Like the flat bottom steering wheel (I know that some dont) did it come with the car and if not where did you get it from.

Mine is more a less standard but I dream of having the time and money to buy another to let my imagination run riot.

Hi the steering wheel was one of necessity, over 6 ft and a rugby player the space was needed purely to change gear lol was an Ebay purchase along with an offset boss to improve leg room, arm rests soon followed..
I needed a car to play with I have always tinkered and the Mx5 has so many different ways to go. I really appreciate the standard car maybe one day after the urges to go to track events have subsided maybe ill end up doing a standard restoration.

Like you, I am a short 6'4" 17stone geezer and struggled with the original momo wheel, I ended up buying a wheel with a circumfrence that fitted inside the momo, result being I can get in and out and drive in comfort, still like the flat bottomed wheel though, so time to start trawling
