Hello and Help Please

Postby Ollie59 » Tue Apr 03, 2018 7:18 pm

I own a 2001 RH drive Racing Green 1.8. The Airbag warning light has just started flashing (6 times). I've seen a few suggestions on here but am a bit confused. The horn works perfectly. There is a lead under the drivers seat, which has become twisted and bare in places, which I believe has been caused by the seat moving back and forth. (I believe this might be the seat belt sensor switch from watching a Youtube clip on how to remove seat) I untwisted the lead and re-insulated and ensured it was securely plugged in. Is there another switch/lead under the seat that is connected with the Air bag system or anything else that might be worth taking a look at before taking it in to the garage? Many Thanks.

M-m, From looking at the codes it stated [6 flashes] drivers side but have also checked under passenger side too. There are two connectors under passenger side and both seem sound. Only the one under driver's side so I'm now wondering if driver's side presumed Left Hand drive, or just meant driver's side LH or RH ! Is there much to be gained from removing both seats ? Many thanks.

There is only a sensor on the passenger side. It’s an occupancy sensor. There is no need for an occupancy sensor on the drivers side as it’s hard to crash without a driver!
If your car has heated seats, you will have a single 2-wire connector on the drivers seat but that has nothing to do with airbags. There is no seatbelt sensor - at least, not on my 2001 1.8 Sport, and believe me, the seats have been in and out a lot!

Can you confirm the flashes? Is it 6 equal flashes or something like 4 slow and 2 fast?

Apologies if some of my replies are dupes, my internet is terrible here:
She is used almost daily and the flashes are 6 equal flashes. The flashes started mid-journey and not at start up. They are now obviously continually flashing. There are no heated seats and the only other electrical problems to note throughout car life is a dodgy headlight cable and the main one, which was a relay under the dash, which sometimes failed preventing the car from starting. This was cured with a bit of a wiggle but now hasn't failed in over 12 months.

Confused about the six flashes, am I right in saying that a 2001 will be OBD11. Or am I missing the point and completety up the wrong road.

There is only a couple of things this could be.... loose or furry connections the modular or clock spring, check all the connections are fine first and work your way back.
You could try resetting the ECU or connecting up to a OBD11 reader.

Given that the Horn works fine, doesn't this rule out the clockspring? Will recheck connections under both seats again. Many thanks for continued help and patience.

2001 will be OBDII but airbag system problems are read by flash codes - the airbag warning light itself flashes.

More free education as I didn't know that but I do now and it makes sense.
