MX5 1999 1.8

Postby mazmarks » Thu Apr 13, 2017 10:11 pm

New to this, I purchased a 1999 mk2 for my wife's birthday and I guess for me to play with. This has turned into a task having now found rot in the forward chassis rails, oil leaks on top of the general repairs. the task begins.

Thanks for the link to the replacement rails, I am lucky and work for an engineering company with a laser cutter so am able to draw and make some parts myself. I have used 2mm cr sheet and will be seam welding it in and coating with zinc rich primer and chassis black before top coating after the mot.

Belated welcome to menderhood. Glad to see you've rolled up your sleeves and gotten stuck in. We're always here if you need us and i would suggest you have look at Autolink if you need some parts.

Engine bay has come up well, well worth the effort and so is the addiction that is MX5 ownership
1993 1.6 Eunos Roadster (gone)
1998 UK Mk 2 1.6 (gone)
2003 1.8 SVT Sport (shouldnt have sold it)
1991 1.6 Eunos Roadster with a bit of bling.

Life is a journey, best travelled topless in an MX5!!

I started in the engine by stripping out the right side and cleaning, the P.A.S reservoir I removed and referbed. The mounting bracket was almost rotted through so i cut it off and made a new one from stainless steel, before welding back on i shot blast the res and when assembled primed and painted satin black.
