Re: Transmission noise and diff mounts
Thanks, I didn't think it seemed normal but it's helpful to know for sure. I'll take a look at the manual to see if I can find what's likely to have failed to allow the extra movement on the right hand side. My thinking is that this could be misaligning the gearbox and diff so putting extra strain o...

Re: Transmission noise and diff mounts
I'm fairly sure the suspension has never been changed. Not only is one wheel higher but the left hand sill is higher than the right when jacked up by the diff. When I'm putting axle stands under the sills there's a bigger gap on one than the other (yes the axle stands are the same size :p) Noise cou...

Transmission noise and diff mounts
I've been trying to track down the source of some transmission noise for a while now and noticed something yesterday which may or may not point to the cause... When I jack the car up from the diff (with a wooden block to prevent damage) there's quite a lot of movement from the diff before the car mo...

Re: Where to get rust repaired?
Thanks M-m, I'll try Andrew. Nedski, you're dead right there! It's the same reason I can't rent a car for the week. I'm 24 so would be paying £35 per day on top of the rental cost.

Re: Where to get rust repaired?
Hi M-m,
You did, yes. I've no doubt they'd do a good job but they didn't have a car to borrow while the work was being done.

Where to get rust repaired?
My mk2 has a small split at the back of one of the sills which I'm hoping to get repaired before the weather gets really bad and the gritters come out. I'm based in Gloucester and work near Stroud but I don't mind travelling a bit to get the job done right. Unfortunately my mx5 is my only car so I n...

Re: Driver side electric window
Did they say what was wrong with the regulator? Does the noise sound like something getting stuck or more of a grinding noise? Mine was getting stuck on the way down. I took it apart yesterday, cleaned, lubricated and readjusted it and it seems to be working fine. (for now at least :-D ) If somethin...

Hi from Hampshire
Hi everyone! I bought my mk2 1.8 iS about two months ago with only 42,000 on the clock and have been having great fun driving (and mending) it since! http://i59.tinypic.com/2s8r7tl.jpg As an engineer I have plenty of practice designing new parts and systems but I'm enjoying getting my hands dirty fo...
