Re: Removing MK 1 heater hose

Just a quick not to say that I changed both heater hoses today which were less of a problem than I thought it would be once the coil pack was removed. Many thanks for all the info and advice.

Removing MK 1 heater hose

There are some useful posts on here about replacing the heater hoses on MK1s but they mostly seem to have hoses held in place with expansion clips. The problem I have is my heater hoses have been replaced at some time and jubilee clips have been used and the most difficult one to access on the engin...

Re: Gearbox oil options

To add fuel to the fire and to undermine my own arguments about lack of objective research into the qualities and benefits of different oils I stumbled across this document that some people might find of interest. http://www.goodsenseoil.com/G2457-GearOilWhitePaper.pdf

Re: Gearbox oil options

Thanks for the advice. I think the annoying but also intriguing issue here is the part that different oils play in improving a car's performance (or not!). If it's the case that one oil is no different from another then why doesn't everyone just go for the cheapest. Although a lot of the evidence an...

Re: Gearbox oil options

I have MK1 1.6 whose gear change is not bad but a bit clunky and stiff especially changing up from 1st to 2nd. I'd hoped the Red Line would make things a little smoother and enable a faster gear change but I'm still finding I have to slow changes down a bit as I did previously. I guess at the end of...

Gearbox oil options

I recently changed my gearbox oil to Red Line MT90 75W-90 GL4 expecting great things in terms of smoother gear changing based on the many reports about this oil but I have to say I've not noticed any improvement, if anything I would say it's slightly worse than the previous gearbox oil. I'm debating...

Oil Pressure query MK1 1600

I'm not sure if this indicates a potential problem but I've noticed that when I first use my car the oil pressure can stay quite high around 4+ on the gauge at low or normal revs for quite some time, certainly past when the engine reaches it's normal temperature level. Usually after it's been runnin...

Re: Upgrade air filter system MK1 Eunos

Thanks for the reply. Following on from your comments I have been looking around and from what I've seen and found out I think I'll keep what I've got for time being. Lot's of other things on the car I can find to spend money on.

Just wondering if it would be worth upgrading my existing air filter system to the standard box and paper filter system. The current setup seems to work fine so I just wondered what other people's views might be.

Re: Engine oil change MK1

Thanks guys. Interestingly I don't have the jacks at home to raise the car so it's level so I went to a garage today who hire out their ramps as I wanted to change the gearbox and diff oil. Knowing it's a good idea to open the filler/level plugs first I did this and oil pored out of both. So I guess...

Engine oil change MK1

Just a quick question to those menders who know the underside of MK1 engines better than I do. Is it the case that more old oil will drain out of the sump if the front of the car is on ramps versus being level? I realise that you'd have to be careful not to overfill when filling up before driving of...

Re: Saving for a rainy day

What about side and quarter windows. I'm pretty sure that windscreens will be obtainable for a long time but I don't know if that applies to the other bits of glass. Also the plastic engine under tray; don't think I've seen these being sold as new.

Saving for a rainy day

Every where I look I see people scrapping their MK1s and 2s so let so suppose that in ten years time most of the 1 and 2s have all gone and there's hardly any secondhand parts around, what parts would you be collecting now and saving for a rainy day? Just to make it more difficult let's exclude buyi...
