Re: What to do with my mx5?

Hi Eddie,

Car has MOT (until September) - no advisories when done last year.

Cheers for the advice, I think you're right to not do anything for a "warm feeling" :-)

Re: What to do with my mx5?

Cheers people, this has been helpful. I do have a print out of prior MOT's mileage, and it all fits. The car wants a good clean, and then I'll grab some photos. And "storm" — your 6 pointer advice is gold. I'll sort the battery out, and make sure the brakes are ok, and then either sell it ...

Re: What to do with my mx5?

Appreciate the replies so far. Cheers. It's interesting to know it cost £300 to spray a panel. I wondered if £500 would cover both affected areas on my car, as a rough guess. And maybe that's realistic depending on who did it.. (I imagine prices vary hugely.) Regarding mileage, I don't have any serv...

What to do with my mx5?

Hello forum people, Wondered if I might get some advice. If so, great! If not, ok. Maybe writing this out will be cathartic :-) OK.. so I have a mk1 mx5 (1.6 1993 red) which I'm not using, and haven't used for about 6 months or more. Because I no longer require a car, and I'm not in position to have...

Even the mechanical idle speed?

Whatever the case, I'm happy because it drove beautifully today, roof down, just the job :-D

Re: Idle issues after battery was disconnected?

Another update: The car continued to have idle issues today. Was hoping it would magically cure itself like it did last week. The car struggled to tick over just now, and stalled when I got home to park up. So I had a go at the idle reset process as described here: http://www.miata.net/garage/KnowYo...

Re: Idle issues after battery was disconnected?

Another update: I have been enjoying a few days of normal idling. No problems. Until I swapped my ECU out for a Jam Racing one on Friday, at which point the idle problem returned. And naturally, I disconnected the battery to do this swap. So: 1. car runs fine, until 2. battery is disconnected & ...

Re: Idle issues after battery was disconnected?

OK .. I'm going to observe the fault very carefully over the next few days, and report back. @Wayne — it was happening both clutch-in, and clutch-out in neutral. To clarify and for perspective: We're talking a dip in revs, to under 500, then climbing and settling. Where on one occasion, it dropped t...

Re: Idle issues after battery was disconnected?

Hammy, it's really nice of you to post more photos with even more details.

Above and beyond..

I think I can do this (shock) so I'm going to ask around for a multimeter to borrow. Or maybe it's time I bought one of my own..

(Great photo's, by the way, and that's a very clean engine!)

Re: Idle issues after battery was disconnected?

Wow, thanks Hammy. I now have to look up where to find those pieces and figure out the nitty gritty details, but at least now I have some direction. Worse case, I can forward the instructions to a local mechanic. I am just not that confident (yet.) Aside: I've spent the last 45 minutes reading up on...

Re: Idle issues after battery was disconnected?

Just doing some digging around, and found these instructions:

http://www.miata.net/garage/KnowYourCar/S7_Idle.html

Could someone tell me if this is a recommended procedure for me to carry out?

Sounds relatively simple so I'm happy to give it a go.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Idle issues after battery was disconnected?

I did the 30 seconds on the brake thing while battery disconnected (30 LONG seconds for good measure) and then took it for a blast.. Still getting the idle dropping when pulling up to junctions. In fact the car stalled (never done that before.) Once it "catches itself" it idles stable. I h...

Cool!

Would this be a good step to do when I replace my ECU with a Jam Racing one?

I will try that, thanks Wayne.

Out of interest, what does this do?

Cheers o/
